Detroit Samuel Hall, Jr., was born November 22, 1945 in Washington, D.C. He was raised in the Deanwood Park area of Prince George’s County, Maryland. As a youth, he attended Fairmont Heights High School. He met his wife Theresa Burley through his sister Jeannette (now deceased) and they married in 1968. From this union two children were born, a daughter, Pamela Hall Wells, and a son, Samuel Hall, who preceded him in death.
“Blow” as he was affectionately known, was a truck driver for 42 years, driving first for Silver Hill in Temple Hills, Maryland, and then Aggregate, in Clinton, Maryland. Blow was a quiet, soft spoken person who found great joy in tinkering with his many vehicles, fishing, hunting, and working on model cars. He was a self-taught mechanic who loved nice cars, especially those that were pretty and fast. He had a garage in his backyard and would spend days working on his vehicles getting them as close to perfection as he could. Blow loved nice things and if he wanted something, he did not hesitate to buy it. His belief was “If I’m working, why can’t I get it?” He took great care and pride in all the things he acquired over the years.
His passion was his love of family. During the summers he spent days out on his boat by himself or with his family crabbing and fishing. When the family went out together that was true “family time”. There was a lot of fun and laughter but also true competition as there was always the challenge of who was going to catch not only the most fish but the biggest. He always enjoyed a cold beer with his nephews and after consuming a few, he displayed a very distinctive laugh which everyone recognized.
Blow was a member of Shannon Hill Hunting Club for years. Certain times of the year he would go to the Hunting Club and spend days hunting with his friends, who shared that same love of the sport. Afterwards they would just “kick the bozo” (a term he used which meant just hanging out talking, and laughing.)
He had a great love of animals, especially dogs, and always had one. When he started dating Theresa he would visit her, walking from The Bottom to Cedar Heights, his dog at that time, Bobby Vanfield, would always be with him. During his later years, he enjoyed having his dogs come along with him, “riding shot gun”. Dingo, the last dog he had before his passing, will miss him dearly. Blow affectionately called him “his buddy”.
Detroit was preceded in death by his mother, father, son, Samuel Hall, and sister Jeannette Black. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Theresa, daughter, Pamela Hall Wells (Wayne), seven grandchildren, Samantha, Kyle, Mecca, Sade, Ruth, Samson, and Ricky; three great grandchildren, Chloe, Savanna, and Ace; sisters, Dorothy Hall, Ruby Jordan, and Carol Simpkins, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
