Dimitrios Ilias Cossis passed away on February 13, 2023, at the age of 79. The family takes great comfort that Dimitrios passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Metaxia Cossis; loving father of Toula Bellios (Cossis) and Elia Cossis and his wife Kara Cossis; cherished grandfather of Maria, Constantine, Constantina, Dimitra and Joachim. He was the devoted son of the late Ilias and Panayiota Kossis; dear brother of Irene Cossis, Milton Cossis and his wife Emily. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Dimitrios was born in the village of Vrisa, on the island Lesvos, Greece. He moved with his family to Athens as a teenager. After completing his military service, he joined his older brother Milton in New York City in 1969. While there, they worked construction for several years. Eventually, they migrated to Baltimore, MD, and became the proud owners of Li’l Maria’s Carry Out for nearly 38 years.
Dimitrios married the love of his life Metaxia Tseleka in 1975 and started a family shortly thereafter. Dimitrios had a deep love for his Orthodox faith, church, and family. He always believed in hard work and making the sign of the cross before starting any task. He was a humble and appreciative man, with a quick wit, and a smile readily available.
The family will receive friends at Peaceful Alternatives & Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, MD 21093 on Sunday, February 19 from 4:00-7:00 PM, with a Trisagion Service beginning at 6:00 PM.
