Doris Jean Kersey Little was born June 22, 1942, in Anson County NC. She was the first born to the late Wade and Beaulah Little. She was raised in the Christian Faith. Doris had a giving and caring spirit and opened her home to many over the years. She loved sparkle and bling; her favorite color was green. She was strong willed and determined. Besides Mom, she was affectionately known as Mommy Bell, Ma Bell, and Grandma.
Doris departed this life on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Springtime Home in Bowie, MD. She received her education in the Anson County and Norfolk, VA School Systems. She received training as a nurse’s aide and worked in a hospital setting. Being around children brought her much joy. Doris loved caring for them during their formative years which led her to open an in-home day care. She made sure to introduce them to the world of Disney. She was an avid reader and devoured the news. Her favorite genre of books was biographical. She enjoyed collecting dolls and figurines, as well as, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.
Doris married David A. Bell, Jr. on September 19, 1964. For 56 years they were inseparable. Together they enjoyed many road trips and attended as many family reunions as possible, sometimes four in a year. They moved to Fort Washington, Maryland in 1975, where they raised their four children. Education and Family gatherings were important to her, especially birthday celebrations. It was a must to have cake and ice cream to celebrate, along with balloons. She loved receiving flowers and loved to have them all around her.
David preceded Doris in death earlier this year. Just as they were inseparable in life, so it shall be in death. They are both in God’s arms now.
Doris was also preceded in death by siblings, Napoleon Kersey, Portia Jones, Sheila Jackson, Michael Jackson, Everett Jackson, and Edwin Little. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kenneth Kersey, Felicia Brooks (Ernest), Sonja Whitted (Harold), Davidia Thompson (David), David Bell III (Monique), and dedicated son, Dwayne Price; grandchildren, Marc, Mikal, Yasmin, David II, Madonna, Desmond, Naadira, Siddiq, Najimah, Mychael, and David IV; great grandchildren, April, Joshua, Noah, and Nyela; siblings, Saundra Little, Carl Wade, Loretta Forchion, Sheree Ingram, Kenneth Jackson, Gary Little, Kim Anderson, Tina Alexis, Tanya King; sister-in-law, Dolores Ealy-O’Neal; brother-in-law, Tyrone Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends.
