Doris Newsome came into the world in 1927 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Born to Hattie and Zeno Newsome, Doris would come to be one of seven children and marry Leamon Edward Hill in 1946. Doris's life was tightly entwined with that of a sister, Ruth Ward, who Doris cared for in her final years of life.
Doris loved glamor. As a beautician, she made a life of making women look and feel beautiful, both in the salon and after her retirement. She tended to a meticulous garden for years, while inside the house she made food into a way of life. Doris will forever be known for her delectable cakes and biscuits, collard greens, and the best fried chicken around. Even though she was soft-hearted, she loved fiercely. She is survived by her sister's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her extended family, and her church community.
