Dorothy Jane Gentry, affectionately known as Dot, passed away on April 19, 2025.
Dot was born to Otis and Emma Gray on February 16, 1941, in Culpeper, Virginia. She graduated from Carver High School and, in the summer of 1960, moved to Washington, D.C. There, she worked as a waitress while continuing her education at secretarial school.
Later that same year, on December 17, 1960, Dot married her beloved sweetheart, Charles Edward Gentry. Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband, with whom she shared over four decades of marriage rooted in love, faith, and devotion to family.
She began her long and committed career at the United States Government Printing Office, where she served with distinction until her retirement in 1995 after 32 years of dedicated service.
Dot was a proud and faithful member of Albright United Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served with joy and commitment. A long-serving usher and volunteer, she generously gave her time to uplift and support her community.
Dot is survived by her three children: Charles Edward Gentry, Sr. (Jobe) of Takoma Park, MD; Terri Lynn Frazier (Charles) of Laurel, MD; and Karen Gentry-May (William) of Bowie, MD. She was a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren and delighted in welcoming her first great-grandchild.
Dot was one of thirteen siblings (Otis, Betty, Sally, Fannie, Becky, Patsy, Mary, William, Taylor, Ginnie, Lillian and Robert). Her life was a testament to the deep bonds of family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
