Dorothy Ann Marshall, age 79, was born in a farmhouse in Jacob’s Creek, Pennsylvania to Mary (Zelesnik) and Victor Yachup. The family moved to Jersey City, NJ for a few years before returning to Jacob’s Creek. She grew up working hard on the family’s dairy farm and as a teenager, spent a summer working on a tobacco farm in Connecticut. After graduating from South Huntingdon High School in 1957, she worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering in Pittsburgh. It was there that, in 1963, she met Michael J. Marshall. She left her job and they married in Pleasantville, New Jersey and honeymooned in Hawaii. Over the next two years they relocated, due to her husband’s employment, to Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Iowa, where they lived in both Bettendorf and Davenport. While in Iowa, and while raising three children, she worked for Osco Drug Store. A few years later, they relocated to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Five years later, they relocated one last time to Bowie, Maryland. Here, she began managing for the Prince George’s County Schools Cafeterias and in 1986 returned to employment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After rising from a GS5 to a GS9 as an Administrative Assistant at ARS, USDA, she retired in 2004. She liked spending time at the beach, boardwalk, and casinos in Atlantic City, NJ, the family farm, and often vacationed in Ocean City, MD with her family. She enjoyed cooking for her children and grandchildren. She had a love of animals from a young age, including farm dogs growing up, her dogs, Gretchen and Taffy, and her Granddogs, Sandy, Prince, and Tank. (and Grandcat, Tink)
Dorothy and Mike were blessed with three children and seven grandchildren. She bravely battled lung and brain cancer for over 2 ½ years. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mike; daughters, Marianna Widmann (Art), and Barbara Ross (Art); son, Michael Marshall (Melissa); Grandchildren, Steven Widmann, Andrew Widmann (Sophie), Angela & Victoria Ross, Abigail, Claire, & Leah Marshall; and niece, Natasha Sandman (David). She was predeceased by her brother, Samuel in 2017.
