Dwight Allen Glaze

Dwight A. Glaze, of Crofton, died March 15, 2022 after a long illness at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 73 years old.

Dwight was born September 8, 1948, in Bald Knob, Arkansas to Oda Ray and Flora Dean Elder. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966, and served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967 as a Sky Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. While in the Army, he earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Business Management from Prince George’s Community College in 1975.  Dwight also completed his Jumpmaster training in 1977. He has earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry With Palm (Unit), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation (Army), Senior Parachutist Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon (3), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Overseas Service Bars (2), Expert Badge Rifle M16, and the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster).  Later he was assigned to 11th Signal Company 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne), where he retired from the Army in 2008, earning the rank of Sergeant Major.

Dwight is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce (Scheffer) of Crofton; his daughters: Stacie Mow (Chris), Megan Keller (Trey), all of Crofton; his siblings, Ronnie (Susan) Glaze of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Warren (Jan) Glaze of Pevely, Missouri, James “Jake” (Kathy) Glaze of Cadet, Missouri; his grandchildren, Jacob, Brayden, Mikayla, Logan, and Kendra, all of Crofton, Daniel and Johnathon of Elkhart, Indiana; his great-granddaughter Maddie of Elkhart, Indiana; his brothers-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” Rawlins of Park Hills, Missouri, Dennis (Alison) Scheffer of Dunkirk; and his Mother-in-law, Ann Scheffer (Meditz) of Bowie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dwight was preceded in death by his father, Oda Ray Glaze; his mother, Flora Dean (Elder); and his siblings, Sharon Glaze, Guy Glaze, Deborah “Deb” Rawlins, and Barry Glaze; and nephews Toby Glaze and Tim Glaze.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway Bowie, MD 20715 from 4-6 pm on April 1, 2022. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Dwight’s name can be made to AMVETS National Headquarters 4647 Forbes Blvd. Lanham, MD 20706, support.amvets.org
