Edward L. Murphy, II

Edward Lawrence Murphy II sadly passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Edward, affectionately known as Eddie, was born May 1, 1954 at Providence Hospital in Washington DC. He grew up in Cheverly, Maryland with his parents and siblings and attended St. Ambrose Church and grade school. Eddie was a proud graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School, class of 1973. In September of 1973, Eddie moved to St. Augustine, Florida with his parents Ed and Hattie. He worked for St. John’s County Public Works as a heavy equipment operator which allowed him to spend a lot of time on the beach – his one great love. Eddie resided in St. Augustine until his journey brought him back to Maryland in 2012, though his heart always remained in St. Augustine and with his love of the ocean. When back in Maryland Eddie became an integral part of his brother Dennis’ family and truly personified the title of “Great” uncle to his nieces, Sarah and Emma, and his nephew, Daniel. Eddie’s humor was a welcomed mainstay at family gatherings and his kindness and big heart will be missed by all who loved him. Eddie was an avid sports lover and never missed the opportunity to cheer on his beloved Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars. He also never missed the opportunity to talk about sporting events with the mailman, Dwayne, whose friendship with Eddie quickly grew over their love of all things sports related.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Hattie Murphy and sisters Kathleen and Sharon. Eddie is survived by his brothers Francis Dennis (Margaret), Ronald (Patti), James (Maryanne), Joseph (Lorraine), and Michael (Joanne). 

Eddie was uncle to Edward, Jennifer, Sarah, Katie, Jimbo, Andrew, Dylan, Kayleigh, and Shelby; Great uncle to Daniel, Emma, and Raven; Cousin to Regina and Elizabeth Day and Chris Murphy.
