Eileen Marie McCormick Barrett was born on January 28, 1944 at Bon Secour hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in a loving home to James and Natalie McCormick. Eileen’s parents passed away when she was very young. She was raised by her paternal grandmother, Ella McCormick. Eileen grew up in East Baltimore and attended church regularly with her grandmother. She had a self-described happy childhood and enjoyed playing with dolls, playing jacks, roller skating, and playing with friends in her neighborhood.
She graduated from Eastern high school in 1962 and after her grandmother passed that year, she lived for a time with her Uncle Jack and Aunt Norma, and their sons Glenn and Dale. In her early twenties, she worked as a flight attendant and formed a lifelong love of airplanes and travel.
Eileen married Joseph Myers when she was twenty-three years old and while their marriage did not last, she formed a lasting bond to Dorothy “Baba” Myers, Kathy Hartman (Née Myers) and Kathy’s son Chris, Eileen’s godson.
In her thirties, Eileen worked in Baltimore at CSX transportation doing accounting work, a job she loved. She met and married Paul Barrett and they had twins, Kacey and Lance, on October 12, 1982. While Eileen and Paul went their separate ways, they raised Lance and Kacey with love and strong values.
More than anything, Eileen loved being a mother and she focused her life on raising Kacey and Lance. She was an excellent mother and loves her children beyond words.
Eileen also had many interests, including psychology, politics, music, sports, and art. She was an avid reader and was passionate about protecting animals and children. In retirement, she volunteered as a court appointed special advocate for children, serving as a mentor and advocate for children in foster care.
Eileen is survived by her daughter Kacey (Doug), son Lance (Mary-Catherine), her granddaughters Magdalena and Eloise, her sister Kathy Hartman, and her nephew and godson Chris Myers. She is deeply loved and missed.
The family requests that you honor Eileen by donating to the Maryland SPCA, Development Office, 3300 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211
