Eileen Sutherland (Lyn) McKenna, long time resident of Bowie, MD, died peacefully on November 9, 2018 at her Riderwood Village apartment, age 95. Eileen moved to Riderwood in 2013 with her husband, John E. (Jack) McKenna, who passed away in 2015. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Eileen was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell HS and St Joseph’s College for Women. Her career in journalism was followed by the joys and challenges of raising seven children. Mom was the communication hub of the family and approached all with optimism and a smile, providing guidance and sharing her keen observations with humor. During their retirement years Eileen most enjoyed reading, traveling and square dancing with Jack, and keeping her children up to date about each other. Loving mother of Peter (Cathy), Bob, Anne Barnes (Brian, deceased), Paul (MaryAnn), Marie Jones (Walt), Jimmy (deceased), and Patti Cole (Mel); grandmother of James, Kristen and Debbie; Janet and Joe; Alison, Danny and Betsy; Mariessa; Sean, Shannon and Megan; and Ronan; great grandmother of Austin, Autumn, Liam and Elle; great-great grandmother of Addison. A memorial mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Rd, Bowie MD on November 14, 2018 at 10am. Private interment.
