Eileen C. Walters, age 46, passed away on 02 August 2021 after an intense two-year battle with cancer. She leaves behind her five children: Ciarra, Joshua, Hallie, Leilah, and Ava, and her mother, Araceli Mohn.
Eileen was born November 12, 1974, in San Diego California. She was known for her infectious smile, her caring spirit, and contagious positive attitude. Eileen was a driven professional, receiving both her Bachelor's and Master's Degree, with three young children and a full-time career.
With true love and passion for nursing and children, she worked at Children's National Hospital for 22 years, expanding and shifting the systems of child care as an MSN, RN, CPN, and CAS. She soon would become Children’s first pediatric nurse navigator where she delivered high-quality care to patients and families through compassionate practice and the promotion of organizational change to address gaps in medical care delivery for vulnerable populations.
Through her work, Eileen advocated for children with autism and co-founded the first program in the nation, the Autism Behavioral Communication Supports (ABC’s) program, creating systems to better assist and support children with autism in the hospital.
Eileen's light will always shine down reminding us of her beauty, her fierce love for her children, and her fight for every single patient she cared for. Words frequently used to describe her: kind, caring, loving, loyal, gentle, and giving. Eileen was and always will be one of a kind. In a sky full of stars, she will always shine the brightest.
Eileen touched so many lives with her beautiful, bright smile and her courage. One of her favorite quotes was “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded”. Anyone who knew Eileen knew that she did not only succeed, she surpassed and she did it with grace, love, and light.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Children's National Hospital in Eileen Walters name.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, 4902 Berwyn Rd, College Park, MD 20740.
