June 22, 1941 – December 18, 2022

Elaine Rose (Greenfield) Hough passed away peacefully holding her husband Jay’s hand on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 4:52pm (Official 5:02pm).

Elaine was born in Washington, D.C. on June 22, 1941, to the late Robert and Bessie Greenfield.

Beloved wife of Jay Arlyn Hough; devoted mother of Renée Eileen (Hough) Corrick (David Corrick) and Craig Andrew Hough (Robin Hough); cherished grandmother of Keeley Beth Hough; predeceased by her brother Richard Greenfield (survived Dorothy Greenfield) and sister Isabel Buchanan (the late James Buchanan). She is survived by her sister, Corinne Stein (the late Herb Stein), brother Samuel Greenfield (Barbara Singer), brother-in-law Allen Hough (Linda Hough), sister-in-law Lynda Gnadt and her loving nieces and nephews.

Elaine worked for more than 25 years at The Holiday Inn on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC in the Sales Department and made long lasting friendships with her colleagues.  On August 30, 2010, she and her husband Jay moved from Bowie, MD to Calabash, NC for their retirement.  Once in NC, she was a volunteer for the South Branch of the Brunswick Library and enjoyed her weekly games of Mahjong and get-togethers with friends and neighbors.

Elaine was strong in her Jewish faith and dedicated member of her synagogue Temple Shalom.

She loved her cooking shows!  Her sweet and gentle kindness, sense of humor, chic style and generous spirit will be carried on through her daughter, son, granddaughter, and all those who loved her dearly.

One of Elaine’s last communications to her family was “I have left my mark”.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Beall Funeral Home located at 6512 Crain Highway, Bowie, Maryland 20715.  The family will receive guests from 11am - 12noon.  The service will begin at 12noon.  The funeral service will be held at Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery located at 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD  20623 in the Chapel at 1:45pm.
