It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Gentilcore, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Betty peacefully ascended to everlasting life on November 1, 2024, at her memory care residence in Annapolis, Maryland.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel A. Gentilcore, who passed December 18, 2020. Betty was born on July 26, 1934, in Woodbury, New Jersey to May and Peter J. Verna. Betty along with her parents and only sibling, Peter Verna, eventually settled in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania where she graduated from Villa Maria Academy in Malvern with honors. Her father was a WWI Army Purple Heart recipient and longtime Philadelphia resident. Both her parents and brother predeceased her.
Betty and Dan met on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey and married on September 19, 1953. They settled in West Hyattsville, Maryland and shared a long, loving, and devoted marriage. Betty is survived by her five children Andrea Gentilcore, Daniel Gentilcore, Angela Gentilcore Ryan, Pete Gentilcore, and Diana Gentilcore along with daughter and sons-in-law, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Betty’s life can best be described as family, friends, flowers, food, and fun. Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her family, gardening, sewing, knitting, quilting, volunteering, and gourmet style cooking. Betty also took great pride in decorating and maintaining a beautiful residence both inside and out. She and her husband hosted many joyous gatherings at their home in Davidsonville, Maryland that focused on their amazing cooking and baking talents. Betty exemplified selflessness, hard work, kindness, caring and generosity.
Betty’s relationships encompassed all aspects of her life, and each was special to her. She enjoyed phone chats, family outings, adventures near and far, and helping others in times of sadness and difficulty.
We find comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the lessons she taught us, the love she shared, and the memories we cherish forever.
A private service will be held at a later date.
