Elizabeth Dawn Houchens (maiden Alderman), born December 9, 1943 in New York City to Hazel C. Winters, passed away peacefully at her home in Hyattsville, Maryland on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, 2022, at the age of 78.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 76. She is survived by her step-brothers and step-sisters Ernie Winters (wife Lee), Billy Winters (wife Barbara), Audrey Brusche, Virginia Dehart, Delores Osborne, Barbara Gillott (husband Clarence), her sons Jonathan Fister (wife Wendy, children Cherish, Chad and Miranda & 2 grandchildren), Clayton Fister, Robert Houchens, and her Stepsons James Houchens (Wife Fatima, son Daniel) and Christopher Houchens (Wife Christina, children Nathan, Gwenyth and Noah). Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth graduated from Suitland High School in Maryland. Elizabeth worked at Kelly Press Inc as an AFL-CIO Union Printer for over 30 years and worked at Macke’s in Cheverly, MD for several years prior where she met Walter, her late husband, who were married for 48 years. Before and after retiring, Elizabeth did volunteer work with her beloved dog Pepper for over 10 years for Pets On Wheels (petsonwheels.org) visiting senior residents at an assisted living facility in Takoma Park, MD. But Elizabeth will be most known for as an avid Cow Collector and stamp and post card enthusiast having had participated in many of those conventions.
The family will hold Funeral Mass at 10:30am to 11:30am this Friday December 9 (On Elizabeth’s Birthday) at:

There will be coffee and donuts at the church between 11:30am – 12:30pm then the interment ceremony at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD at 1pm – 1:20pm:

After the Funeral Ceremony there will be a reception at Chris Houchens home following for all who wish to attend for lunch after the service at the cemetery.
