Elizabeth O'Connell Powell "Laurie"

October 11, 1959 — November 13, 2019

Elizabeth O’Connell Powell “Laurie”, 60, of Bowie Maryland passed away peacefully on November 13, 2019 surrounded by family after a short battle with Adrenal Cancer.

She was welcomed into this world by her parents Douglas J. O’Connell and Suzanne H. O’Connell on October 11, 1959 and grew up in Cheverly, MD.

Laurie graduated from Fairmont Heights High School in 1977.  She was a business owner of Signs by Tomorrow for 18 years.  Her career took her to ProCom where she spent 6 years with her work family.

Some of her favorite pastimes were reading a good book or watching one of her favorite sporting events.  One of the last things that brought her enjoyment was seeing her Nationals win the World Series.

She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Church and embraced her Catholic faith.

She married the love of her life Donald Powell on October 3, 1987 and spent a loving 32 years together. 

She is survived by her loving husband Donald R. Powell, parents Douglas J. and Suzanne H. O’Connell, brother Michael E. O’Connell, sister Colleen O. Becker, daughters Michelle Reiley and Sherry Brazile, grandchildren Brittney, Aliyah, Christian and Aaron, great grandchildren Bethany, Grayson and Jonah, nieces Alexis, Breanna and Elizabeth, nephews Joseph and Michael.

She was preceded in death by her niece Constance Suzanne O’Connell, her grandparents Joseph A. and Ruth A. O’Connell and Edward F. and Elizabeth M. Hall.

Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715 followed by a celebration of life reception.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
