Ellen Marie Boerum

September 21, 1930 — December 23, 2018

Ellen Boerum went to be with the Lord December 23, 2018 at 9:15 am.  She died of complications from Pneumonia.

Ellen was born Ellen Marie Foedisch on September 21, 1930 to Frederick and Ellen Foedisch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She graduated from Allentown High School then moved to Baltimore with her family where she worked as a bookkeeper for an accounting firm in downtown DC.  She met her lifelong love while on a double date. Lewis Boerum asked his buddy if he minded if he asked her out on a date and the rest was history. They were married September 6, 1952. Over the years they moved around but finally settled in Churchton, Maryland to raise their four children.  For years she was an assistant manager at IGA in Deale and later worked at Herman's Sporting Goods in Annapolis as a bookkeeper.  She could always be found with a smile on her face and a kind word given.  She was the neighborhood mom and many a nights she harbored family friends if they had nowhere else to go.

Ellen was a lover of many things. You could always count on her to want to play cards or a game as soon as you walked into the door.  She also loved to read and garden, puzzles of all kinds, trivia, dancing, playing the piano, the beach, the mountains, bird watching and hunting for shells.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Boerum and her son Frederick Boerum.  She is survived by her children Barbara McDonald, Philip Boerum and Teresa Hurley.  Along with her grandchildren, Ruby Debondt, Garth McDonald, Christopher Hurley, Justin Hurley, Jacob Hurley,  Kristin Boerum and seven great-grandchildren.

The family is planning a celebration of life this coming year.  In lieu of flowers you can donate to the COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Miami, Florida 33134 or at www.copdfoundation.org/Take-Action/Donate/Make-a-Donation.aspx
