Elvira Pulliam Washington was born to the late Lee and Myrtis Pulliam on Sunday, October 15, 1933 in Camp Hill, Alabama. She made her transition on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at her long time residence.
She was raised along with her six siblings in Tallapoosa County, Alabama where she received her early education. Being #7, she always described herself as being the last one to go – and she was.
Married three times, first to Howard Combs which resulted in three beautiful children. Second husband, late Cleveland Cummings and third the late Joseph Washington. Furthered her education in NY in the medical field which led her into the profession of private nursing.
She professed her belief in Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Peoples Community Baptist Church. She sang in multiple choirs: TPCBC’s choir as a second soprano, PAVS, and the Gensis Choir of Generation One. Elvira participated in multiple activities which enhanced the quality of services for seniors. She enjoyed traveling and her most recent trip visiting her two nieces, Doris Williams in Alabama and Shirley Warrior in Georgia. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, crossword puzzles, walking and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings and her son Bobby Combs. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter and son-in-law Gloria and William Burrell of Maryland; devoted son and Daughter-in-law, Billy and Mary Anne Combs of Tampa, Florida. Seven precious grandchildren: Derick (Deceased), Eric and Anthony Moore; Michael and Will Combs; Kevin Combs and Stephanie Askew. She was known as GG to her dear 14 great grand-children. Additionally many nieces, nephews, friends and her church family.
