Emidio “Chick” Cicolini, 81, of Bowie, MD, passed away at his home on April 9th, 2022. He was born in Brackenridge, PA on June 25, 1940. The youngest of three children raised by Italian immigrants, he became a living example of the American Dream. Upon graduation from Indiana University Pennsylvania in 1962, he married the love of his life, Peggy Beth, on August 17th, 1963. The couple relocated to Maryland to pursue their careers in Education and Healthcare and eventually settled into Bowie in 1968, where he continued his education and received a master’s degree from the University of Maryland. He went on to have a decorated career as an Elementary School Principal in the Prince George’s County School System. There was no challenge he wouldn’t take on and spent most of his career turning around failing schools. In a tenure that lasted over 30 years, his easy-going nature and infectious personality made him very popular with both students and teachers alike.
Chick was active in the community as well. He was a member in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and led a number of their charitable initiatives spanning over 50 years. As he and his wife began building their family, they became big supporters of Maryland Athletics. He helped start the Maryland Football Locker Club that operated social gatherings and events for players, coaches and their families. Those events created a welcoming family atmosphere in a program at the height of their success. Bonds were developed that last until this day.
Chick’s passion was golf and family. During his retirement, he worked as a General Manager at Woodmore Country Club and later he ran tournaments at Bowie Golf and Country Club. He loved playing golf with his friends and grandsons. If he wasn’t on the golf course, he would be a constant presence at his grandchildren’s sporting events, which he almost never missed. When sports weren’t in season, he loved spending time at the beach or in the backyard pool with his grandkids. There is nothing he treasured more than being with his family.
His death is preceded by his parents, Luigi and Enrica Cicolini, and sister Sylvia. Chick is survived by Peggy Beth, his loving wife of 58 years, his daughter, Lori Cicolini Stehle and her husband William “Chip” Stehle, his grandchildren, Justin, Michael and Bethany; his son, Chris Cicolini and his wife Josephine, his grandchildren, Andrew, Nicholas and Gabriela; his sister, Rose Long and his nephew and nieces. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His presence and influence in all of our lives could never be overstated. He will be greatly missed.
