Well known for her radiant and dimpled smile, Emogene “Gene” Proctor was an outstanding wife,
mother, grandmother, sister, church member, and friend.
One of eight children, she was born on August 4, 1956 in Washington, DC. At the age of 23 while working at Safeway she met her husband, William “Harold” Proctor. Together, they had 4 children: Bryan, Jonathan, Keziah and Stephen Proctor.
Gene served as a faithful member of Redemption Ministries for over 30 years in many areas, including the Dance Ministry, the Hospitality Ministry, the Visitation Ministry, the Discipleship Ministry, and in one of her most notable roles, as a song leader in the church’s Praise & Worship Ministry. Known for her beautiful songbird voice, her unparalleled and fervent prayer life, her strong mentorship skills, and her gentle ministering spirit, Gene’s faithful service was recognized by her unanimous ascension to the Redemption Ministries Deacon Board in 1995.
As a Deaconess in Redemption Ministries, Gene faithfully served in ministry side-by-side with her husband, Elder Harold Proctor, fully fulfilling the Apostle’s Creed and Jesus’ instructions to:“…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Everyone in Gene’s life knew of her intimate love for her Heavenly Father. She was truly the apple of his eye, created for His pleasure. To all who knew her, she literally was - His treasure. Her beloved was hers, and she was His. Song of Solomon 2:16.
Gene’s wish to be united with her Heavenly Father was fulfilled on May 4, 2021, when “Daddy” God picked her up at the age of 64. While we are deeply saddened that our beautiful songbird flew away, and while we shed tears for our loss, we are also filled with deep joy that our ‘Gene, Gene, beautiful Gene’ will be forever singing freely throughout all Eternity in her Father’s presence.
“I’ll be praising, I’ll be praising, you-oo-oo!”
