Fabian Ferrell Franklin passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, after a brief battle with aggressive prostate cancer. Fabian was born on July 24, 1946, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Jacob and Odessa Franklin. Fabian attended Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, served in Viet Nam, and a graduated at the Officer Candidate School (OCS). After many years of military service, he received an Honorable discharge from the Army with the rank of Major. Fabian was a dedicated veteran and was certified through the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to assist with matters concerning vets' claims, their dependents, widows, and orphans. Fabian graduated from The Ohio State University, pledged, and became a lifelong Omega Psi Phi fraternity member. He belonged to the Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, located in Montgomery County, Maryland. Fabian held an aviator's license and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the National Flyers' Association. Fabian retired seven years ago as a software developer. He was a selfproclaimed historian. He was the family's genealogist helping them to trace ancestors. Fabian was also a recreational birdwatcher spending many hours in the backyard observing their natural habitats. He was worldly and enjoyed watching the History Channel, the National Geographic Channel, and various news channels, reading, journaling, and talking about current and historical events. He was also a devoted family man and well respected. Fabian is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dr. JoeAnn Billingsley Franklin; son, Jacob Alexander Franklin (Pauline), daughters Joi T. Mooney Kauffman (Brian) and Noel Tarquinii (Bruno). Grandchildren, Mickael Mooney, Mickala Tarquinii, Alexsia Tarquinii, Tatum Kauffman, Adriena Tarquinii, Brian, Jr. Kauffman, Simone Harris, Zoe Sortijas, Brooke Kauffman, Natalia Tarquinii, and Julian Tarquinii. He is also survived by brothers Charles Franklin (Dorothy) and Craig Franklin and sister Renee Franklin McGahee (John) and nieces, LaVerne Franklin-Jones (Michael), Andrea Franklin, K'Asha Franklin-Davis (Arthur), and nephews Charles Eric Franklin (Carolyn) and Allen Franklin. Fabian also leaves to mourn brothers-in-law Adam Billingsley (Julia), Daniel Billingsley (Crystal), Joe Billingsley, and sisters-in-law Sarah Jones, Mary Billingsley, Juanita Billingsley, and Henrietta Billingsley. Interment of ashes for Fabian will take place at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors (date to be determined).
