Faith Joyce Vance

September 23, 1930 — August 5, 2020

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Faith Joyce Vance, September 23, 1930 – August 5, 2020. Known by her middle name, Joyce, our Mom was born in New Jersey, spent most of her childhood years near Columbus, Ohio, and moved to the DC area in her early 20s where she met the love of her life, Bill Vance Sr., got married, had a huge family, and spent most of her next 70 years.

For those that had the good fortune to know our mom, she was one of the kindest people you’d ever meet and showed how important simple gestures are, like a smile, an offer to one of our friends to stay for dinner in an already packed house, a walk on the beach, a hug, making sure we got to a practice or a game, always having a Christmas when resources were scarce, and always being there to support us. There are no words to express how much we loved our Mom, appreciated everything she did for us, and how much we will miss her.

In addition to raising nine kids, our mom was a superstar Avon sales representative for almost 50 years. We joked about it at times, but we all loved getting a soap on a rope, jewelry, perfume, or cologne in our Christmas stocking. We suspected that some of our Mom’s customers ordered items they really did not need, but looked forward to our Mom’s deliveries which included a beautiful sweet face, a big smile, and a good chat.

Our mom is succeeded by her children Sharon, Angie (Jackson), Bill, Casey, Sandy (Steve), Alicia (Kurt), Laurie, Tony (Karen), her nine grandchildren (Rachel, Zac, Gerard, Ally, Steve Jr (Laura), Nick, Gabby, Logan, and Lars), two great-grandchildren (Julian and Skylar), brother Gary, and sister Judy (Skip). Our Mom was preceded by her husband Bill and her youngest daughter Leslie, the china doll (Mike).

Please join in celebrating our Mom’s life August 17, 2020 from 10-Noon at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20715, followed by a graveside service at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mental Health America - www.mhanational.org
