Frances Richardson Johnson passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021, in Crofton, Maryland.  She was born April 13, 1946, to the late Earnest and Thelma Richardson in Nash County, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her brothers Thurman Richardson and Ernest Richardson.

Frances was educated in the public-school systems in Newport News and Hampton, Virginia. After graduating she married Gilbert Johnson and they later relocated to Reading, Pennsylvania, where she received an Associate Degree in Education from Reading Area Community College and taught in the Head Start Program for years before retiring.  As a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Frances participated in the Choir, Usher Board, and taught Sunday school.  She was innovative and inventive in her passion for sewing, arts and crafts, as well as refurbishing furniture.

Frances and the love of her life, Gilbert moved to Bowie, Maryland, to be near their children and grandchildren. After the passing of her husband, Frances moved to Hampton, Virginia to be closer to her Mother and siblings.

She is survived by her four daughters, Karin Johnson Pitchford (David), Angela Johnson Norris (Willie, Jr.), Yolanda Johnson Nelson (Tarus, Sr.) and Carmen Johnson Aton of Maryland. Four sisters, Novella Richardson Perry, Velma Richardson-Martin (William), Lue Ella Richardson, all of Hampton; and Andrea Richardson Revelle of North Carolina.  Nine grandchildren Shayla, Courtney, Olivia, James Michael, Tarus Jr., Amarri, Tiye-Ialiyah, Asia, and Jaire; and four great grandchildren Nasir, Maelie, Kaiyah, and Sophia. Frances also leaves behind a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention.
