Frank J. Barbitta of Bowie (formerly of Riverdale), Maryland died on October 13, 2020 at the age of 89. Frank was born to Nicholas and Rose Barbitta in Washington, DC, on January 30, 1931. He was a graduate of McKinley High School and following graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. On February 22, 1955 he married his wife of 56 years, Catherine “Betty” Griffin in Ft. Worth, Texas, and they settled in Riverdale, MD. Together they raised six children: Andrew (Debra), Nick (Janet), Brian (Lisa), Joe, Gina Hossick (Jim) and Frankie (Karen). Frank was a doting grandfather to seven: Andy (Nicolette), Tony, Monica (Kevin), Austin, Dylan, Brayden, and Bailey; plus, two great-grandchildren, KJ and Alexander, and step-grandchildren Amy and Halley. Frank was pre-deceased by his wife, Betty, two brothers, Joseph, Tony, and one sister, Tina Middledorf.
After retiring from Sears, Frank enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved playing and watching sports. He was an avid golfer who in his lifetime scored 3 hole-in-ones. In addition to golf he enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Washington Redskins and the Nationals.
Frank was a loving and kind person who was easy to be around. He had a quick smile and generous spirit. He was loved by many and will be missed very much.
