August 13, 1942 – August 4, 2020

Gerda Elizabeth Ryan of Severn, MD passed into the arms of the Lord on August 4, 2020, nine-days before her 78th Birthday. Born in Washington, DC, she is survived by her 2^nd husband of 30 years John Martin Ryan, her big brother Larson Henry Jones, her adoring children Helen Marie Chamberlin, Catherine Rose Rubio, Charles Moulton Chamberlin IV, Margaret Irene Chamberlin-Edelen, and step-son John Matthew Ryan. She was a doting grandmother to Frank Rubio Jr., Kate Dimsdale, Maya Bonello, Erin Chamberlin, Cayla Chamberlin, Christian Chamberlin, Alyssa Krueger, Nathan Krueger and Lilly Edelen along with son in-laws, Christopher Jordan, Frank Rubio and Tim Edelen and daughter in-law Marlene Chamberlin. She is blessed with three great-grandchildren, Aviana, Iris and Olivia. Born into a musically gifted family, Gerda is predeceased by her loving parents Roy and Marie Jones of Silver Spring, MD. Gerda attended Wheaton High School (Class of 1960) and earned a BS undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland University College (1990). She was a bass singer with the Sweet Adeline’s Harbor City Music Company for 42 years. Gerda initially started her family in Four Seasons – Gambrills, MD and in 1974 moved to Severn, MD where she remained for 46 years. Retiring in 2012, Gerda worked at Capitol Technology University along with her husband, John Ryan, a University Engineer Professor. Gerda’s star will continue to shine bright in the mid-night sky.

Mrs. Ryan’s viewing is open to family and friends at Beall Funeral home in Bowie, MD on Wednesday, August 12; 3:00 - 5:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The funeral service, for family only, will be private but will be live streamed here.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to either the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Maryland or Hospice of the Chesapeake in celebration of Gerda’s 78^th Birthday on August 13, 2020.
