Gregory Allen Meekins 60 of Severn, Maryland departed this life and entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday March 6, 2020. Gregory was born on July 28, 1959 to Laura Ray and the late Early Meekins in Long Branch, New Jersey.
He received his education in the Long Branch public school system and eventually graduated from Long Branch High school in 1978. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army where he served from 1978 until he retired in the mid 1990’s. After many years of service Greg transitioned into the non-profit sector, where he would work for the Friendship House Association and the Children’s Defense Fund before retiring in 2013.
He loved his family and more specifically social gatherings with family and friends. He was proud to serve as a family historian. Through all of his hard work, he gathered enough information to publish two volumes of the Howard Franklin Hurley Family Tree, which includes over six hundred family members.
He had a huge love for traveling and explored many places throughout the world on a consistent basis, he often flew, but really loved to take annual cruises to most of the places he visited. Jamaica held a special place in his heart, and it was one of his favorite destinations. He had a passion for shopping, not primarily for himself, and it brought him great joy to spoil others. In addition to shopping and traveling Greg always made time to show off his cooking skills. He made sure to always keep up on politics, the latest music, art, fashion, and theater.
Gregory was full of love, touching so many lives in many ways and places. His laughter and smile was infectious. He made it a point to make everyone feel special, and always checked in on the ones he loved. He was a connector and took tremendous pride in uniting and bringing people together. His presence will truly be missed by many loved ones within the states, as well as abroad.
Gregory leaves to cherish his memory: his husband; Hector Erazo, children; daughter (whom he adored) Khalisha Meekins, son (who always made him proud) Joshua Meekins, loving mother; Laura Meekins, loyal brother; Earl “Jimmy” Meekins, dedicated sister; Jennifer Wilson, his best friend; Mike Hoppe (who he considered to be his German brother), his dog Rocko (who he considered to be his second son) and a host of relatives, friends and extended family.
