Gregory D. Ziemer

Greg will be fondly remembered as kind, hard-working, mild-mannered, and generous to his friends and family. He was a loving husband to his wife Mercedes. He loved to go down memory lane and tell his children stories from the past and made Dad jokes which he found to be quite hysterical. He had an adventurous spirit, enjoyed traveling with his family, going on day trips to places in the DC metro area, and socializing with long-time friends.

Greg was born July 10, 1954, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Dale Ziemer and Greta Reeves. Greg graduated from Del Norte High School in Crescent City, CA in 1972, then went on to join the United States Coast Guard. While stationed in Spain, Greg married Mercedes Paz on October 16, 1974, at the church of Santa María del Campo. After getting married they were stationed in many places including Louisiana, Puerto Rico, and Minnesota before they settled in Maryland. While proudly serving for the Coast Guard in Washington DC, Greg attended classes at night, did homework on weekends, and earned his master’s degree in engineering. After retiring from the Coast Guard in 1993, at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, Greg worked as a government contractor until his death.

Remaining to cherish Greg’s memory are his wife Mercedes Paz, his children Trish White and Eric Ziemer, his grandchildren, Joshua Martin and Alissa White, his parents, Dale Ziemer and Greta Reeves, and his sisters, Deanna Ziemer-McGinn, Susan D. Engel, and Tricia Megee.

Preceding Greg in death are his sister, Jill Ziemer, and step-mother, Gloria Ziemer.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
