Halsey Vilmer Banks, son of the late William Emory and Sellie Stine Thompson Banks, was born on August 14, 1933, in Alamance County, North Carolina. He departed this life on March 21, 2020, after several years of failing health.
After completing his formal education in the Alamance County School System of North Carolina, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1954. After being honorably discharged he moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut where he became a member of Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church. Halsey matriculated at Oakwood College (now University), graduating in 1972 with a B.A. degree in Religion and Theology. His major work experiences include Probation Officer, Lauderdale County, Alabama; Assistant Dean of Men (Residence Hall Director of Peterson Hall and Gentlemen's Estates) at Oakwood College, and Security Guard at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Preceding him in death are two sons: Van Eric Banks of Connecticut, and an unnamed infant affectionately remembered as "Zeke." Left to share his legacy of love and devotion are his wife Rosa Maria Taylor Banks of the home; Children, Kevin Banks of Lothian, MD; Marcellus Crews (Angie) of Upper Marlboro, MD; and Karmala Banks Johnson (Erik) of Huntingtown, MD; Grandchildren, Keanna Jordan (Stephen); Kai Jaylaan Bailey; Phoenix Simone Johnson; Faith Rose-Marie Johnson; and Liam Kristopher Johnson; God-grandchild, Shona Stewart; and God-greatgrandchildren, KaiRell and Starr Stewart.
Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law who will cherish his memory are: Freddie Taylor (Cheryl) of Huntsville, AL; Cleveland Williams of Gainesville, FL; Edward Taylor of Ocala, FL; Pastor W. Lester Taylor (Vicki) of Huntsville, AL; Sylvester Taylor (Paulette) of Indianapolis, IN; Marcia Regeanna Shaw (Herb) of Fort Worth, TX; Warren Taylor of Tampa, FL; Debra Taylor Briggs of Ocala, FL; and Carla Taylor Parrish (Jimmy) of Orlando, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends throughout the USA and abroad.
