Harry Valdis Abelitis – March 30, 1950-May 10, 2024
Married to his beloved wife, Sandy, for 35 years.
Predeceased by his mother, Elvira Barenis; father, Teophils (teddy); and sister, Lydia.
Harry leaves behind his stepbrother, Sean & stepsister, Carolee. He was the loving father to three children, Holly, Christopher, and Jason; as well as his bonus children Tammy, Charlie, and Ginger. Harry was the proud pawpaw to 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Born in Washington, D.C – he lived in District Heights, Maryland at an early age; he grew up later in New Carrollton, Maryland where he began working alongside his father, Teddy, at the age of 12 at Deenwood Auto Body. Harry graduated from Duvall High School in 1968.
Self-taught and innovative, Harry’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch his own electronic security business when he was 30 years old, in 1980. Later, after much success he sold Professional Security, Inc. and began an early retirement in 2000 at the age of 50. He served on the board of directors for Jockey Beach Club in Ocean City, Maryland for 18 years.
Harry suffered a significant stroke in May, 2018, and was later diagnosed with Parkinson disease in 2020.
