Celebrating the Life of
Mr. Harvey Elaska Dent, Sr., 59, received his heavenly wings on Wednesday, February 03, 2021, at his home in Washington D.C. Affectionately known as “Harv” by his family and “Red” by his friends, he was born on August 02, 1961, to the late Deacon Julius Dent and Elder Martha D. Dent of Adams Run, South Carolina. Harvey was the youngest of eight siblings, his brother (Teffy) preceded him in death.
Under the spiritual upbringing of his parents, Harvey dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age. Harvey later joined the Calvary Church of God in Christ in Osborne, South Carolina. In Harvey’s later adult life, Harvey recommitted himself to the Lord by joining the Reid Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church in Glenn Dale, Maryland.
Harvey attended the public schools of Charleston County and later graduated from Baptist Hill High School (BHHS) in 1979. While attending BHHS, Harvey became a talented drummer as part of the Mighty Bobcat marching band. Upon graduating from high school, Harvey committed to the service of his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His army tenure consisted of a duty stationary tour at Fort Riley in Kansas City, Kansas. Harvey’s army career also consisted of many decorative allocates to include the following: Army Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle), and a Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) Professional Development Ribbon. After Harvey’s loyal military service, Harvey later received additional training in Building Maintenance and Property Management from the Crawford Edgewood Managers Institute. Harvey continued to foster his commitment to hard work and dedication by maintaining employment in several professions to include environmental services, security operations, and warehouse processing throughout his professional life.
Harvey later was blessed to father three beautiful children, Harvey Elaska Dent, II, Brandon Julius Dent and Aaron Michael Dent that remained near to his heart.
Harvey remained a bright and joyful soul to whom all he came in contact with. His impeccable smile, tender heart, and captivating personality made him a jewel to his family and friends that loved him so dearly. Often the life of the party, Harvey adamantly enjoyed time with his children, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and family pets that meant so much to him. Harvey could often be seen in the park socializing with friends, putting smiles on faces, and bringing laughter and happiness to all whom he came in contact with. He also loved telling stories about his life in Adams Run, South Carolina where he grew up. Harvey’s bright personality may be always remembered by the words recorded in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Harvey leaves his loving and devoted family to cherish his memories: a loving mother Elder Martha D. Dent of Adams Run, SC; sons, Harvey II., of Washington, DC; Brandon and Aaron Dent of Ft. Washington, MD; granddaughter C’anna M. Dent of Silver Spring, MD; brothers, Gary Dent (Patricia) and Anthony Dent (Sonya) of Adams Run, SC; sisters, Willa Nesbit (Frank) of Goose Creek, SC, Pinola Lawson (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; Marie Williams of Bowie, MD, Doreatha Dent of Adams Run, SC and Kathy Dent of Bowie, MD; Grandaunt, Thelma Perry of Queen, NY; Uncles Nathaniel Mitchell (Gladys); Leon Mitchell of Adams Run, SC; Charles Mitchell (Ruth) of Hickory, NC; Aunts: Louethel Mitchell of Adams Run, SC; Norma Burvick of Myrtle Beach, SC, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
