A Life Well Lived

Heather Hyacinth Rasberry née “Quintal” was born on December 16, 1940 in Toco, Trinidad and Tobago.  She was the only child of Hilda “Spinks” Thompson and Manuel Quintal.

Heather migrated to the United States in 1967 where she met her husband of 49 years, Samuel Rasberry.  Though Heather had no biological children, she was mom to Tyrone Allen, Hosea Coley and countless others.

Grandmother of Arden Thomas, Rashad, Amia, Isaiah, Tyrone and Shayla Allen, Jamine Coley and Aria Coley-Rhenwicks. Great Grandmother Aubrey and Nolan.

Aunt of Wendell, RaeAnn, Ricardo, Stacey Ann, Nicole, Natalie, Sheldon, Danica, Anthony and Mark-Anthony Lovelace; Trevor Wills and many other nieces and nephews.

Cousin of Mr. & Mrs. Trevor Denny; Mr. & Mrs. Neville Tenia Jr; Mrs. Janet Nicholson; Mrs. Linda Morton; Hilda Lovelace (Deceased); Philippa Monseque (Deceased) and many more.

Friend of Randy Reid, Joanie Smith, Juanita Ryan, Trevor Haywood and family and many others.

Heather loved design and fashion, music, dancing and cooking. She loved to cook and see others enjoy the food she prepared. Though Heather migrated in 1967 she never forgot her “Trini” roots. She loved carnival and the steelpan and was a cultural ambassador; promoting and defending Trinidad to the core. She had no problem letting others know that she was “trini to the bone” which she was fondly called in her later years.

Heather worked at United Airlines for over 26 years and was actively involved in their Caribbean Cultural Affairs Committee earning continuous recognition for her voluntary acts and good citizenship.

Special Thanks

Thank you to the Sherlan and Mayleen McIntosh and the amazing staff at New Horizon Assisted Living, Bowie, MD including her favorite aides Abby Archer and Ashley McIntosh. The care and attention Heather received was amazing. She was loved and cared for in a truly special way in this “home away from home” that the McIntosh family provides.

Thank you to staff at Heartland Hospice Services of Beltsville, MD especially her nurse Janet Fields who provided hospice care to Heather at New Horizon. New Horizon was “home” to her from 2015-2019 and to be able to have her remain at “home” while receiving hospice care was a tremendous help.
