Helen Ruth Farley, 86, formerly of Warren, Michigan passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. She fell asleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus.
She was born on May 21,1935 to Clifford and Myrtle Spittler in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended a Billy Graham Crusade where she accepted the Lord and began singing in the choir. Her family relocated to Anchorage, Alaska where she met and married Dale Farley in March, 1954. After Dale’s air force career ended, they moved with their new born son, Dale Jr., to Warren, MI where they would begin raising a family of five children; Dale James, Clifford Ernest, Brenda Renee, Lori Kay, and Russell Williams.
In addition to being a faithful wife and mother, she also worked in retail and healthcare. She had heart for children and taught Sunday School and Children’s Church. She organized mission fairs and made flags of the nations to teach the children the importance of reaching the whole world for Jesus.
After preparing for the ministry, Dale and Helen, along with their children, moved to Hopewell Junction, NY to pastor their first church. Over the next 27 years, Dale and Helen would pastor five different churches in Hopewell Junction, NY; Shokan, NY; Cheboygan MI, Houghton Lake, MI, and Pinconning, MI.
In addition to being a supportive Pastor’s wife, Helen continued leading the children’s programs. With every new move, Helen showed Christ’s love by baking for and visiting neighbors. Many would come to know the Lord through her ministry of hospitality.
Two of her most treasured accomplishments were receiving her GED at the age of 53 and learning sign language so she could teach it to children.
Helen is fondly remembered by family and friends as a lover of Jesus and a powerful prayer warrior. She prayed for each of her children, grand and great grandchildren out loud - by name. She faithfully called her friends, sent cards, and prayed with them. After Dale passed in 2017, she continued praying for and encouraging the missionary families as she and Dale had previously done each morning.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale Farley; son, Russell Farley; sister, Julie Huling; and parents, Clifford and Myrtle Spittler. She is survived by her two sons Dale and Clifford and two daughters Brenda and Lori. She leaves a legacy for her 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support Tom & Alyson Miller as they follow God’s call to return to the mission field with their six beautiful girls. Helen met and prayed for the family and supported their work. Two ways to give:
