Lieutenant Colonel Henry (Hank) Joachim Boettcher, Jr. ( USA Ret), 92, died peacefully in Millsboro, DE on December 4, 2019.
After graduating from West Point Military Academy in 1952, he served his country for 22 years from 1952 to 1973. During his military career, he served in the Korean War in the Third Infantry Division, commonly known as the 7th Infantry Regiment and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor; Panama, 1st Battalion Tenth Infantry specializing in jungle warfare tactics. He served in various Posts in the United States to include Ft. Myer, VA, assigned to the Third Infantry Regiment "The Old Guard"; Fort Bragg, NC, assigned to the 82nd Airborne. His last foreign tour was to serve in the Vietnam War. Throughout his military career, he was recognized with several military honors. After his retirement, he worked for Maryland Environmental Services, Science Management Corp, and the United States Department of State.
Born on October 21, 1927 in Honolulu, HI he was the son of the late Henry J. Boettcher, Sr. and Mary Esther Stevens Boettcher. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Myrtle (Billie) Wilson Izenour, Katherine Brown, Louis Henry (Jack) Boettcher, Marilyn Audrey (Lynn) Boettcher Ray, and Yvonne Adele (Bonnie) Boettcher LaBoon. Survived by: former spouse, Dorothy McVernon Ray; spouse, Magdonna (Skip) Boettcher; seven children: Carey Boettcher Mongeon and her husband, Leonard Mongeon; Mark Boettcher and his wife, Terri Callahan Boettcher; Jamie Boettcher; Anthony (Tony) Pallozzi and his wife, Charlene Cloey-Pallozzi; Jack Boettcher; Wendy Corbino and her husband, Thomas Krzycki; and Kimberly Corbino; nineteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
His passions and hobbies included: the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, the Boston Bruins, Army football, the Washington Redskins, the West Virginia Mountaineers, dancing, boating, fishing, hunting, and family functions.
His heroes included General Patton, Charlton Heston, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, his father and his brother, Jack, and all who have served in the military past and present.
We will miss his flirtatious antics, his fun loving attitude, his special hugs and kisses, his dancing, and above all, his unconditional love and caring for his entire family and his country. He loved the life of a soldier and what the Army represented. AIRBORNE and God Bless America!
