Herbert Wilson Spiller, Jr.

September 14, 1928 — December 10, 2019

Retired Inspector, U.S.Marshall, Herbert Wilson Spiller, Jr. passed away on December 10, 2019.  Born in Hyattsville, Maryland, Herb served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea before the outbreak of the Korean War.  After returning home he began a career in law enforcement as a Montgomery County police officer and then as a Deputy Sheriff in Prince George's County.  From 1955 to 1978 he served as a U.S. Marshal in the District of Columbia where he lead significant efforts to improve courthouse security among other roles.

Time spent helping his father run their store in Hyattsville during his formative years gave Herb an acute business sense.

After his retirement Herb volunteered at the Public Library and the Bowie Health Center.  He was a voracious reader of non-fiction during his leisure time.  He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Lucile Spiller.
