Herman Lee Mason

Herman Lee Mason was born May 30, 1940 in Morrisville, North Carolina.  He passed away on Friday November 8, 2024 at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Waugh Chapel in Crofton Maryland at the age of 84.

He was the third child born to James Nathaniel (Bud) Mason and Norena (Nola) Bullock.  He was a graduate of Berry O'Kelly High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, which is now a historic landmark.

Herman entered the Air Force at the age of 19 as an airman.  He retired from the U.S. Airforce as a decorated Chief Master Sargent at the age of 50, after 30 years of service.  He retired as a chapel management superintendent i.e. the Executive to the Command Chaplain.  He had an honorable discharge, 2 service medals, and multiple service ribbons and awards.  During his time in service, Herman was stationed in France, Tennessee, Idaho, Thailand, California, Germany, Washington D.C., Japan, Washington D.C. (again), and Alaska.  After retiring he moved back to Maryland where he resided until we passed away.

He leaves behind a son, Herman L. Mason, Jr. (Carmen) of Alaska, a daughter, Stephanie L. Mason Gabay (Rohan) of Maryland, 3 sisters, Lillie Jones of North Carolina, Geraline Mason of Georgia, and Janet Mason of North Carolina, 5 grandchildren, great grandchildren, a cousin and friend Martha Summers of Maryland, and a host of other cousins nieces and nephews.
