On January 10, 2021, in his own way and for his own purpose, God retrieved one of his angels, Ida Louise Davis and took her home.
The endearing Ida Louise Davis was welcomed into this world on March 5, 1942 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. She was the third of six children of Ellen and Fred Knox. Ida, affectionately known as “Wink” by her brothers and sisters, was very focused, playful, athletic, smart and caring. When her mother went to New York City to work, Ida, the eldest girl at home, took on the responsibility of caring for the entire family.
Born of modest means, the daughter of a sharecropper in the rural South, Ida learned the value of family, hard work and sacrifice. These virtues would shape her life helping her to become successful both academically and professionally.
Ida attended Aggrey Memorial High School and graduated valedictorian of her class. She then attended Winston-Salem State University where she was a stellar student. She majored in nursing and became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After graduating from college, her nursing career led her to New York City. As fate would have it, her mother introduced her to Aaron Davis who would become the first love of her life and her husband.
Ida and Aaron married in 1965 and eventually purchased their first home in Cambria Heights, New York where they would raise their family. Fredric Aaron Davis the second love of her life was born in May of 1967; followed by the 3rd love of her life, Sean Christopher Davis born in April of 1971. While raising her family, Ida earned a Masters in Education from Hofstra University. She combined her nursing expertise with her degree in education and became a school nurse and health teacher. Her career in healthcare and education lasted over 30 years.
Ida was blessed with two grandchildren Aaron Jerome Davis and Alek Sophia Davis which she often referred to as her “precious babies”. Her priorities focused on Aaron and Alek and they became her life’s passion. She loved them more than life itself. Ida greatly extolled the benefits of honesty, integrity, education and high self-esteem to her sons and grandchildren.
Ida was a wonderful wife, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend, grandmother and mother. She leaves behind to cherish their time with her and carry on her legacy: husband, Aaron Davis; son, Fredric Davis; grandchildren, Aaron Jerome Davis and Alek Sophia Davis; daughter-in-law’s, Laura Davis and Nicola Harris; mother, Ellen Knox; sisters, Argie Johnson and Hazel Knox; brother, James Knox; first niece, Vietta (David) Johnson; nieces; Angela Anderson, Yulonda “Candi” Knox-Givens and Fonda Knox, nephews; Maurice “Angie” Knox, Timothy (Diana) Knox, Darryl (Lennetta) Johnson, Darren (Teresa) Knox and James Knox; and a host of other: nephews, nieces, family, colleagues and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Fred; brothers Theodore “Butch” and Fredrick and her son Sean.
We are all lucky to have had Ida in our lives and we will cherish the memories of the time spent with her on this earth.
