Irene Elizabeth Beers

July 11, 1925 — October 27, 2020

Irene Elizabeth Beers, a 58 year resident of Bowie, died in her sleep on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Larkin Chase Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was 95 years old. While the last four years of her life were at Larkin Chase, Irene was one of the first home owners in Bowie and purchased her first home located on Belair Drive. She used to talk about that kitchen all the time and how much she missed having such a large kitchen to cook and gather in.

Born July 11, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, Irene was born and bred in the state and extremely proud of her Maryland heritage. She was the daughter of Henry T Hofstetter and Hilda J Intelkofer. She was preceded in death by her siblings John C Hofstetter, Henry Paul Hofstetter, Fred H Hofstetter and her parents.

Irene met the love of her life, Malcolm “Hank” Herbert Beers in 1947 and they married later that same year. They had a loving 61 years together before his untimely passing in April 2008. They had three children (Lois, Barbara and Timothy) together and were known to have many family gatherings at the Beers Homestead throughout the years with all of their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, etc.

Prior to getting married, Irene worked for the Hecht’s Company in Washington DC. After her marriage to Hank, Irene became a fulltime Homemaker and a mother on their First Anniversary. For the 61 years they were married, she took great pride in caring for her family and being the best mother and Homemaker possible.

Irene was a longtime member of St. Pius X Church and embraced her Catholic Faith.

Some of her favorite pastimes were reading a good romance novel, gardening, playing Solitaire and planning meals for her family. In her later years, Irene enjoyed watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies on TV. One of her greatest joys was planning holiday meals and hosting the family gatherings each year. Irene so loved the Christmas Holiday season and would start baking her famous cookies in November each holiday season.

She is survived by her daughters Lois Wickline of Hagerstown, MD, Barbara Rodda (Dale) of Lakeview, AR, Timothy Beers (Diana and Joanna) of Yazoo, MI, Grandchildren Carl, Wendy, Kurt, Holly, Sam, Andy and Tyler, Great Grandchildren Glafira, Ketira, Jasmine, Isabella, Dominic, Ashely, Ally, James, Aaron, Megen, Emily, Roman and Brody.
