Captain James Burneskis “Jim”
Jim Burneskis, 82 of Bowie, Maryland passed away September 26, 2018. He slipped in his beloved garden on September 11, 2018 and had an internal bleed in the brain that resulted in a coma. Jim was born on August 20, 1936 the oldest of three brothers “John and Richard” to Mary and James Burneskis in Scranton, PA. Jim was a loving father of two Curt and Mark and married to Sally who passed ten years before him.
Jim retired from the Navy Reserves as a Captain. He also worked for the department of the Navy in Annapolis, MD and with NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his youngest brother Richard and wife Sally of 46 years. He is survived by his brother John Barry, youngest son Mark who married Sarah and has two children Madeleine and Adrienne, oldest son Curt who married Cheryl and has two children Nicholas and Katelyn.
Jim attended Saint Pius X Church in Bowie and was a greeter during morning mass and loved to attend the doughnut and coffee social after mass. A fixture at the Bowie senior center for the past twenty years, Jim attended many classes each semester including Ball Room Dancing, Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga, Piano, French, German, Italian and Tax Preparation.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 10am to 11am, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD followed by a funeral mass at 11am. Interment at Arlington Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the church.Saturday, October 13, 2018
