James Ashton Curtice, Jr., age 34, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, October 7, 2019. He was born on September 1,1985 to James A. Curtice, Sr. and Deborah Makowski. He was a 2003 graduate of Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Maryland. James was a trombone player in the marching band. James was on a fast track program towards earning his bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
He was engaged to “the love of his life, his one and only, his true love, his pal, his angel and rock” Danielle Clark. James and Danielle celebrated their 12th year anniversary on September 1st. James and Danielle lived in their new home in Nottingham, Maryland with their fur babies, Willy and Wally.
He was employed at Target prior to working at Amazon in Baltimore, Maryland - taking with him his wonderful way of accepting everyone with the motto of “just do your job”. Jimmy, Lil Jim, Jim Jr. or James had a positive impact on others, and had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and heartfelt way. He had the talent to make people laugh in everyday life, especially during his shenanigans. James was often referred to as the gentle giant with a kind soul. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter how exhausting his day had been. Those who were lucky enough to receive one of his famous bear hugs are truly blessed.
We believe that James would celebrate his short life journey and remind us that:
“Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don’t. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it.”
He is survived by his fiancé Danielle Clark, of the home, his father, James Curtice, Sr of Kent Island, MD, his mother, Deborah Makowski of Jeannette, PA; two brothers, Chad Curtice of Kent Island, MD and Zack Schultz of Jeannette, PA; Grandmother Joselyn Makowski of Burtonsville, MD, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Joseph and June Curtice, uncle, Patrick Curtice and maternal grandfather, Colonel Paul Makowski.
