Jim was born on February 20, 1944 to Lawrence and Flora Griffin in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a loving father of two and devoted husband to wife Eileen, with whom he would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on October 7, 2018. Jim was a dedicated public servant, sworn as an Officer for the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for 21 years, where he retired as a member of the Special Operations Division. Following his retirement from the MPD, Jim served for 15 years as a Court Security Officer at the US District Court in Greenbelt, MD.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael, and his sister Mary. He is survived by his wife Eileen, his daughter Mischelle and husband Dan Hauprich, his son Eric and husband Brian Cahill, his brother Richard, his sisters Bea, Eileen, and Nancy, his grandchildren Joey Colella, Steven Colella, Michael Colella and long-time girlfriend Genesis Porquin, David Colella and fiancé Alex Biris, and many nieces and nephews.
At Jim’s request, there will not be a public viewing or funeral service in his memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcomed in Jim’s honor to the Dollard Suter Family Fund at the Police Federal Credit Union, a fund administered by volunteers to provide bridge resources to newly widowed police spouses awaiting survivorship benefits and temporary assistance to police officers and law enforcement families experiencing financial emergencies.
