James Myers Lewis passed away peacefully at Medstar Harbor Hospital Thursday, January 20, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great– grandfather.
“Jimmy” as he was affectionately known, was born March 15, 1945, in Prince George County, Maryland to the late Rudolph Marshall Lewis and Sarah Ann Lewis. He was one of 12 children born to Sarah and Rudolph.
James was educated in the D.C. Public School system, where he studied and mastered auto repair at Phelps Vocational High School. Upon completion of his formal education, he met and married Florence the love of his life of 54 years and started their family. Jimmy displayed his creativity in everything from cooking to fixing things (his way) around the house. Also lovingly known as “Daddy Lewis”, he loved and adored the daycares’ children and their families.
James was an entrepreneur, he owned “James Lewis Trucking Company”. His company was instrumental, aiding in the successful completion of many large construction projects in the Washington Metro area.
James was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Clinton and great grandson Darion. He is survived by his wife Florence; siblings, Rudolph, Mary, Charles, Maggaleen, Frazier, Richard, Winda, Larry, Linda and a special Sister-in-Law Rhoda; his children, Lisa (Jason), Rodney, Maurice (Taryn), and Talesha (Reginald); grand-children, Teila, Ashley, Nikesa, Maurice Jr., Morgan, Dylan and Reginald; great-grands, Brianna, Kylie, Krisette, and Amir; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him!
