With his loving wife by his side, James (Jim) Thompson Morris of Crofton, Md., passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the age of 91. He died peacefully in his home.
Jim was born in Dubois, PA on January 6, 1932 , the son of James and Julia Morris. He was proud of his Scottish heritage, his father having immigrated to the United States from Scotland at a young age. Listening to a tune played on a Scottish bagpipe always brought a smile to Jim’s face.
Being raised in the shandow of World War 2 and the depresioin, his love of his family and his country always came first. His love of country manifested itself early when at the age of 17 he joined the United States Marines. He served in the Korean conflict and in Vietnam and Brazil with the State Department. He retired from the Department of Defense. Jim graduated from Ben Franklin University and the University of Northern Colorado in Greely, Colorado.
As a Marine, Jim in his retirement years would give talks to students at Crofton Middle School to commemorate Veterans Day.
As an avocation, Jim read history deeply and widely, and most often World War II history. There was nothing he liked better than to watch movies or read about history.
He loved to travel and traveled the world. One of the highlights of his travel life was when he visited the beaches of Normandy. He marveled at the Frenchman who approached Jim expressing his thanks to the United States for its role in winning the war.
The last 45 years of his life he resided in the suburban Maryland areas of Marlton and Crofton, surrounded by many good friends. Jim loved a good walk. He enjoyed his crofton men’s coffee group every Tuesday morning, where they solved all the world’s problems.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his brother Walter and his sister Sarah.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, David and Michael (Lisa) ; grandchildren, Megan, Samuel and Jacob; nephew, Sean; nieces Danielle and Angela and his sister-in-law, Frances.
