Jean Caffes (nee Leahy) passed away peacefully at home in Bowie, MD on Sunday September 27, 2020.
Born on January 5, 1928 in Massachusetts. Jean was the loving wife of the late Peter J. Caffes, Sr. Born the daughter of the late John E. and Louise (Mullen) Leahy.
Raised in Washington, DC, Jean graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1946. She married Peter on January 19, 1952 at Saint Xavier Catholic Church. They moved to Silver Spring, MD to raise their six children.
Jean loved to pray the Rosary daily, to read books, to solve crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and to play games, especially Trivia Pursuit. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is survived by her children Constance Caffes (Simon), Claudia Caffes, Peter Caffes, Jr., wife Jean, James Caffes, wife Sandra, Jean Leahy, husband Dan, and Andrew Caffes, wife Kerry. She was Blessed with 12 grandchildren Andrew Leahy, wife Lauren, Jonathan Caffes, Nicholas Caffes, wife Maria, Katherine Leahy Nagle, husband Steve, Christine Caffes, James Caffes, Robert Caffes, Mary Leahy, Michael Caffes, Rosemary Caffes, John Leahy, and Alexander Caffes. She is predeceased in death by her sisters Eleanore Ruley, Lucille Henderson, Joan Bean, and son in law Andrew Simon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2 from 6 to 8 PM at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Northwest Crain Highway Bowie, MD 20715.
Eulogy and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 3 at 12:30 PM at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, 4104 Norbeck Road Rockville, MD 20853.
A private burial will follow at Norbeck Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
