Jean S Mead died peacefully on October 8, 2018, at the age of 92. She was the eldest child born to the late Paul and Agnes Schweitzer on June 13, 1926 in Washington, D.C.
Jean met her future husband Art while working at the Department of Agriculture. She married the love of her life on December 1, 1946 at The Little Church of Fort Lincoln.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt to her large family. They were entertained frequently. She was renowned for her cooking and baking skills. Many family favorite recipes were perfected over the years by Jean. A gracious hostess, everyone was welcomed in her home where she developed long lasting friendships.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards and was an avid reader. Her generosity was displayed with her volunteer work and membership to numerous organizations especially those that benefited animals.
At her side throughout the years and known to all that visited were her four legged friends – Duchess, Puff, Honey, Sweet Thing, Miss Agnes and Julia.
Preceded in death by her husband Art, daughter Judith Ann and brother James Schweitzer. She is survived by son James and his wife Cynthia, son Jeffrey and his wife Jennifer, grandsons Anthony, Arthur and Josh, granddaughter Jamie, great granddaughters Aubry and Khloe, brother John Schweitzer, sister Joellen Bailey and husband Russell, sister Joy Pucciarelli, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
