Jeanne Marie Channon Edwards (July 14, 1925 – December 20, 2024)

“Life is but melting snow” – Zen Monk poem

On Friday, December 20, 2024, Jeanne passed away at the age of 99 ½ at Collington Episcopal Life Community in Bowie, Maryland.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Victoria Edwards (Lorian Lipton) and Elise Snight (Gary); grandchildren, Michael (Ashley) Snight, Ryan Edwards, Katharine Edwards, Morgan Snight, and Carissa Lipton; great-granddaughter, Quinn Marie Snight; and her nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jeanne was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Fred I. Edwards, and her brother, Kenneth Channon.

Born on July 14, 1925, to Leone Walls Channon and Kenneth Channon, in Vineland, New Jersey, her family moved to Washington, DC early in her life.

Jeanne fell in love with the boy next door, the love of her life and her best friend, and married Fred when she was only 18. During WWII, they lived where Fred was stationed throughout the US, finally settling back in Washington, DC. After the war and the birth of both daughters, they lived in Japan and Hong Kong for Fred’s work, returning to build a life in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1961.

A devoted wife and mother, Jeanne was also a Master Ikebana floral artist and teacher (Ikebana is the centuries-old Japanese art of arranging flowers.) She was an honored member of The National Cathedral Altar Guide for over 50 years and provided many beautiful arrangements for the chapels.

Jeanne moved to Collington Episcopal Life Community in 2013, where she continued to teach Ikebana flower arranging, and made many wonderful friends. Known as “Madam President” by others on her assisted living floor, she spent her days in religious studies and meaningful conversations.

The family will hold a private service and Jeanne’s final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery with Fred.

Donations can be made in her name to: https://cathedral.org/support/memorial-honor-gifts/ Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20016

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Collington for their care and compassion over the years.
