Jeffrey Eugene Dunston, 62, of Washington, D.C., passed away on June 1, 2024. Born on October 21, 1961, in Washington, D.C., Jeffrey was a beloved brother and friend.
Jeffrey graduated from DuVal High School and pursued a successful career as an engineer specializing in maintaining boilers and chillers for hospitals and federal buildings. He started right out of high school in 1979, first with Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. His dedication to his work was evident in the meticulous care he put into ensuring the safety and efficiency of the facilities he served. He excelled in this career for many years, retiring on October 31, 2021.
Jeffrey was unlike many of us when it comes to work. He would work his shift and the next shift for someone else. He even had three jobs at one time! That was Jeffrey. He had a great love for music and movies, owning many videos of old TV series. He desired to open his own video store, a goal he did not see come to fruition. His vast collection of video tapes and DVDs showed he was well on his way.
Jeffrey was passionate about fishing and loved to travel. He enjoyed driving and often went on trips with friends, sharing his love for exploration and the outdoors. Two memorable trips include a family vacation to Disney World in Florida in 2010, which he was like a kid in a candy store. This was also Jeffrey's first time on an airplane which he enjoyed very much. Another memorable time was a day trip to New York City's Times Square with his brothers, creating cherished memories together.
Jeffrey didn’t have children of his own, but he had great love for his niece and nephew, showing up to support their various events. He was also the family historian; if you needed to know who was who in the family line, you went to Jeffrey. He was the person family and friends turned to when in need, always ready to help.
Jeffrey is survived by his loving brothers Kevin Dunston, Eric Dunston (Michelle), and Carleton Dunston (Kelly); niece Carmia; nephew Micah; his surviving aunt Dorothy Shumate; uncle Donnell Dunston; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Idell and Eugene Dunston. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A funeral service to honor Jeffrey's life will be held at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland, on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The viewing will begin at 3 PM, followed by the service at 4 PM. The family invites all who knew Jeffrey to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of donations, the family asks that you keep Jeffrey in mind by sharing your memories and stories of him.
