Johanna M. Palmer passed away on the morning of February 17th, 2022. She was born on November 11th, 1934 in East Durham, New York to Daniel J. and Elizabeth H. Ahern. She grew up in the Catskill Mountains then moved to Washington D.C. where she attended St. Cecilias Catholic School. She married John Tartaglino, had five children and moved to Bowie, Maryland. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, fishing, and art. After graduating from the Univ. of Maryland with a degree in art, she became the manager of an art gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. After retirement, she traveled extensively with her second husband William J. Palmer.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband William J. Palmer and former husband John Tartaglino, sister Elizabeth “Betty” A. Corrado, and brother, Father Bernard J. Ahern.
Johanna is survived by sister Eileen A. Van Hoomissen, children Mary P. Tartaglino of Bowie, MD, Thomas A. and wife Jill C. Tartaglino of Palmyra VA, Theresa A. Lebhar of St. Augustine FL, Daniel J. Tartaglino of Bowie MD, and Francis J. Tartaglino of Palmyra VA. Grandchildren Lauren and husband Mike Maher of NY, Linsay Lebhar and Madeline Lebhar of St. Augustine FL, Travis Tartaglino, and Hayley T. and Chris L. Tompkins of Palmyra VA, great grandchildren, Mackensie and Landon Maher,
Ryan and Alexander Tompkins.
Johanna was an exceptional mother, teaching her children to cook and enjoy the outdoors. She was a dedicated parishioner in St. Edwards Catholic Church and made banners which decorated the interior. She was well loved and made friends easily as she was a kind and gentle person.
