Johannes Metz passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 18, 2018; he was 72.
Johannes, fondly known as “Hans” to many was born in Weesp, Netherlands, September 23, 1946 to the late Louwrens Metz and Maria Arendje Metz Klein; he was the eldest of ten children. As a child he attended Dr. Albert Plesman school and graduated from Van Baalen Handels school of business where he went on to work as an accountant for Volkswagen of Amsterdam. Throughout his life he had many careers such as making influenza vaccines for the Philips Duphar K.W. laboratory and working for the senate via Architect of the Capitol in 1996. He went on to settle in the medical field attending the University of the District of Columbia and retiring in 2012.
Hans was baptized in 1979 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, serving for 39 years until his death. Five years later on December 21, 1984 he went on to meet and marry his wife, Lorraine, in Georgetown, Guyana. Together they relocated to Washington, D.C. in June of 1990 where Hans attended North Congregation for seventeen years and finally attending District Heights Congregation in Maryland until his death.
Hans is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine. Children, Pierre-Sebastiaan (preceded in death), Amanda Metz and David Metz. Grandchildren: Melana, Elisabeth and Scarlet. Siblings, Jacoba, Antoon, Barend, Laurens, Cornelia, Eveliene, Carla, Freddy and Jolanda. Aunt, Norma Stewart. Nieces: Marissa & Mariah Orderson Nephew, Dave Metz. Brother in-law, Dindyal Balkaran. Sister-in-laws, Frieda Metz, Ida Metz, Patricia Metz and Pamela Balkaran. He also leaves behind a host of relatives and dear friends.
