John Herbert Fluharty, Jr. of Riva, passed away on January 19, 2020. He was born on December 28, 1956 in Easton, MD to Doris and John Fluharty, Sr.
Along with his decades-long career at Washington Gas Light Company, John became a Company President and Life Member of Riva Volunteer Fire Company.
John loved animals, especially his Border Collie, Snowball, and his two cats, Smalls and Tater. He also loved hockey (particularly Navy hockey and the Capitals), motorcycles, boats, bowling, dressing up as Santa, and supporting our troops, law enforcement and all those keeping America safe. He participated in laying wreaths at Arlington each year and countless memorial charity motorcycle rides, such as Rolling Thunder, supporting POW/MIA(s), 9/11 emergency responders, firefighters, and so many more.
He is survived by his sister Teresa, nieces Angela, Melissa, and Tiffany, and nephews David, Matthew, Michael, William, and Justin, along with dozens of grand-nieces and grand-nephews who will miss hugs from “Uncle John.”
Family will receive friends on Friday January 24, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy (Rt. 3 South), Bowie MD 20715. Burial immediately afterward at Lakemont Memorial Cemetery, Davidsonville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in memory of John to the Riva Volunteer Fire Company, 3123 Riva Rd, Riva, MD 21140.
