John Philip Johnson

John Philip Johnson, age 78, of Crofton, MD, died at home on Thursday, April 29th six months after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. It was a peaceful passing with Honor, his beloved wife of 54 years, by his side.

Born in Washington, DC on April 27, 1943, John was the only child of Margaret W. and Philip S. Johnson. In 1966, he graduated with honors from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went to work as a civilian with the Department of Navy. After 34 years of service, he retired in February 2000.

John and his wife enjoyed taking cruises and seeing the world, sailing on their boat and square dancing. Their philosophy being, do it while you can because you don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

A generous and caring man, John loved to help others. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 5th, from 2 – 4 p.m.at the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy, (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD. A graveside service and interment will take place at Lakemont Memorial Gardens located in Davidsonville, MD, on Thursday, May 6th, at 11:00 a.m. at which time an opportunity will be given to those who would like to share their memories of John.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in John’s memory to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, John and Cathy Belcher Campus, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122 or to a charity of your choice.
