John J. Mahon

John J. Mahon, a Vietnam veteran and retired Prince George’s County police officer, died unexpectedly on December 3, 2018 at the age of 69.

John is survived by his mother, Leona Mahon of Mt. Airy; his brother, Donald Mahon of Mt. Airy; his son, Christopher Mahon and daughter-in-law, Lisa, and their two children, Brody and Kaitlin, of Reston; his daughter, Jennifer Lowe and son-in-law, Christian, and their son, Zachary, of Annapolis.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonita Mahon and his father, Dominic Mahon. 

John was born in Washington, D.C. on June 11, 1949 to Dominic and Leona Mahon. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School and went on to serve two tours in the Vietnam War. On November 17, 1973, he married “Bonnie”, a registered nurse. He joined the Prince George’s County Police Department in 1972 and retired in 1999.  He welcomed his two beautiful children, Christopher and Jennifer, on September 2, 1976 and September 8, 1977, respectively, and considered them to be the most important part of his life.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed boating, reading, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting activities. He was an active supporter of the United States Naval Academy by supporting Midshipmen through the Naval Academy Sponsor Program.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rt 3 South), Bowie, MD. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:30am. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. There will be a reception following the burial, place and time to be determined.
